Supervisor: Pool Manager and/or Aquatics Manager

Job Summary: 

This position reports directly to the Pool Manager during the summer. In the winter this position reports directly to the Aquatics Manager. Ensures a safe swimming facility for patrons and swim lesson participants. Able to identify and prevent potential hazards in all our aquatic facilities, by observing from lifeguard stands and/or pool decks. Responsible for maintaining order and executing lifesaving skills when necessary. Extensive interaction with the public requires a person with good judgment who will be authoritative but fair. Instructs swimmers of all abilities and ages in swimming lessons if certified. 

Job Locations:

Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department Pools; Dellinger Park on Pine Grove Road, Aubrey Street pool on Aubrey Street, and the Senior Aquatic Pool at Sam Smith Park on Douthit Ferry Rd. 

Responsibilities and Job Duties:

  • Comply with all operating policies and procedures.
  • Enforce rules and maintain proper surveillance at all aquatic facilities.
  • Respond to incidents/accidents using the proper techniques and complete all reports as necessary.
  • Attend in-service training sessions as scheduled.
  • Clean restrooms, pick up and takeout trash.
  • Complete equipment inventories and safety inspections as assigned.
  • Teach American Red Cross swim lessons if certified and needed.
  • Work a front desk/ concession area if needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements of Position:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguard, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and First Aid certification. Water Safety Instructor certification a plus.
  • Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time while maintaining proper patron surveillance.
  • Able to operate office equipment, including a computer.
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Must have the knowledge, skills, and abilities taught in American Red Cross lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certification course.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and reach with hands or arms. The employee may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Clear hearing and speech required.

Working Conditions:

Work for this job is performed in an outdoor setting. The employee will be exposed to wet, humid conditions and outdoor conditions. Quiet to moderate noise levels. Fast paced requiring flexibility in handling a variety of functions simultaneously.
