Introduction to the Organization:

The Bartow-Cartersville Joint Development Authority (BCJDA) is an appointed Board of the City of Cartersville and Bartow County Governments.  It operates as the Cartersville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development (the Department) to implement the Mission Statement, “to develop and promote trade, commerce, industry and employment opportunities, for the public good and general welfare of the county, region and state.”

The Department has three full time positions and one college Internship.  To accomplish the Mission, the Department collaborates regularly with partners and stakeholders throughout the community and state.

Position Purpose & Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create communications and graphic content for the Department, for digital, print, and social media.
  • Manage websites and their content, including real estate listings.  Note:  The Department is supported by certain outside contractors when needed for programming.
  • Support mapping and related needs for Requests for Information.
  • Plan and coordinate meetings/events.
  • Supervise student Intern.

Expectations of all Team Members:

  • Cross-training with other positions in the Department, for the sake of backup and accountability.
  • General support of the Department, the BCJDA and partnering Boards of Directors.
  • Customer, stakeholder, and community interaction.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Working a flexible schedule, occasionally as necessary.

Competencies Required:

  • Effective Communication, Graphic Design, Efficient use of Technology, Effective and Appropriate use of Social Media Platforms, Innovation, Problem-Solving, Teamwork, Initiative, Learning and Supervisory Skills.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience required in Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing.
  • Person of high ethical character whose honesty, integrity, and discretion are above reproach.
  • Proficiencies creating content for and maintaining communication platforms.
  • Proficiency in preparing presentations and disseminating information for targeted audiences, in a concise and edited manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (especially PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook and Publisher), as well as other standard software.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct/document/organize research to support the Department.
  • Valid driver’s license and able to operate a motor vehicle safely.
  • Able to perform some light lifting and maintenance as necessary.

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Experience in Communications / Public Relations, Economic Development, Community Development, Real Estate, or Community-Based Organization.
  • The ability to create maps, infographics, reports and/or StoryMaps with ARC GIS’s ESRI.
  • The ability to create interactive maps and experiences with GoogleEarth Pro.

Salary: Salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience.

Acknowledgements:

  • The position is accountable to Executive Director of the Department.
  • It is a full-time, salaried position and not eligible for overtime.
  • Normal office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  The ability to work a flexible schedule is occasionally required.
  • Benefits, workplace compliance guidelines and related protocols are set by the City of Cartersville and overseen by the City’s Human Resources Department.  The BCJDA has additional Policies & Procedures in place. Each employee is responsible and accountable for compliance with workplace policies and risk mitigation.
  • An annual driver’s history will be conducted.
  • An initial drug screening is required as a condition of employment, and random drug screenings thereafter may be required in accordance with these policies.
  • The position will be probationary for three months, then an employee interview and performance evaluation will be conducted.
  • Prepared 07.07.2022.  The Department desires long-term relationships with its team members and will work to find the best fit; the position will stay open until filled.
