DEPARTMENT:  Planning and Development, City of Cartersville

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Inspects and coordinates codes and ordinance violations during non-standard business hours.

 

HOURLY PAY:       $23.9812

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Enforces city ordinances, such as zoning, development regulations, sign ordinances, landscape, soil erosion and sediment control, solid waste, housing codes, utility and nuisance, and alcoholic beverages, taxes, and licenses.           
  • Notifies persons responsible for violations in person, by phone, or by mail, as needed.
  • Builds and maintains files of violators for possible court cases; file includes photographs, written notices, and case notes.
  • Prepares and presents cases on code violations to the city court judge and re-inspects the property for compliance at the end of the time period specified by the judge.
  • Serves court papers to violators as required.
  • Removes illegal signs from right-of-ways.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of relevant city codes and ordinances, legal processes, construction and trade codes, and the zoning ordinance.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the city including street names and rights-of-way.
  • Skill in the use of standard office equipment, including a computer/iPad, and standard business application software, calculator, copier, shredder, and facsimile machine.
  • Skill in investigation techniques.
  • Skill in reading maps, charts, and microfiche.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school, equivalent, or higher. 
  • Ability to obtain ICC Certification relevant to the International Property Maintenance Code.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position; usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

 

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
