JOB TITLE: Gas Service Worker
DEPARTMENT: Gas
COMPENSATION: $21.1833/hourly
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing duties associated with natural gas line installation, repair, and maintenance.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Checks for leaks in pipes and meters.
- Operates combustible gas indicator (CGI) to detect gas.
- Installs new mains, lines, and taps.
- Lays pipe, tapping lines, and tracing wire
- Checks cathodic protection on lines when uncovered.
- Locates lines for other utility workers.
- Inspects work performed by outside contractors as required.
- Mows grass and trims trees around meters and regulator stations.
- Assists with cathodic protection surveys.
- Changes and hangs new meters.
- Repairs field regulators.
- Paints regulator stations and meters to prevent rusting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
- Knowledge of city policies and federal and state codes pertaining to the repair and maintenance of natural gas lines and mains.
- Skill in operating specialized equipment, including a fusion iron, cold ring clamp, shaving tool, depth gauge, air gauge, and air compressor.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Break Endorsement issued by the State of Georgia
